Patient Accounts Manager


Summary:

The Patient Accounts Manager directs and coordinates all patient accounting functions of billing and collection of claims after services are rendered. These responsibilities include in-patient, outpatient and emergency billing and collection. This position will include management of multi facilities.

Experince:

Directly manages day-to-day activities of patient accounting staff. Ensures daily electronic/paper billing submission to appropriate payer and monitors follow up activity on open receivables.

Establishes policy and procedure for appropriate follow up while monitoring staff productivity.

Develops departmental goals. Maintains necessary records including attendance and reports to quantify the quality and timeliness of staff efforts.

Keeps abreast of billing regulatory changes and informs staff of new developments. Conducts in service education sessions where applicable.

Responsible for all aspects of individual supervision for all staff assigned including interviewing, hiring, orientation, scheduling, goal setting, progressive discipline/termination and annual performance reviews in a timely manner.

Identifies and documents all system related issues. Monitors implementation/updating electronic billing systems.

Controls and monitors technical and clinical denials and works with other departments to reduce denials.

Promotes and provides quality customer service and proactively identifies and resolves customer issues.

Works with SR, Director, Patient Financial Services to assure all protocols, policies and procedures are in compliance with the Medical Center's policies and procedures. Collective bargaining agreements, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), New York State Health Department, and all other applicable regulatory bodies.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education:

A minimum of three years healthcare finance experience especially in the areas of billing and collections.

Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration or related field required or sufficient management experience.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
