Quality Control Laboratory Technologist

This position works in our National Cord Blood Program (NCBP) which was the first public cord blood bank in 1992, funded by a research and demonstration grant from NIH. Since its inception, NCBP, part of the Howard P. Milstein Cord Blood Center, has banked more than 60,000 cord blood units and provided over 5,000 cord blood units for transplantation to patients suffering from lethal diseases.

In this role the candidate will perform cell and plasma aliquots, cell culture and PCR assays, selected tests, while ensuring/maintaining the integrity and identity of all blood specimens. He/She will also be performing:

Hematology testing according to laboratory SOPs
Accessioning in database
Slide staining and organizing storage of blood specimens
Performing centrifugation of samples and aliquots
Inoculating culture broths and making subcultures of positive broths
Preparing shipping and receiving lists
Monitoring cultures in incubators
Handling sample preparation for CFU (Colony Forming Unit) assays (sterile technique)
Utilizing computer software to document Colony Scoring and Identification
Participating in the Laboratory's in-house quality control program
Participating in in-house Laboratory training programs, as well as instrument-specific and NYBC CGMP training
Handling other related functions as needed

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in Biological Sciences (Hematology or Biology preferred), along with NYS Clinical Lab Technologist License and 0- 2 years of Biomedical Lab experience. Knowledge of sterile technique, pipetting, lab labeling and documentation will be expected, as will an understanding of QC procedures, basic PC literacy, and a strong attention to detail.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
