Summary:
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the supervision, maintenance, and coordination of work related to the hospital's plant and machinery equipment that includes and is not limited to the following:
chiller plants, steam stations, electrical switchgear/ATSs, emergency diesel generators, air handling units, domestic hot and cold water, medical air, medical vacuum, drainage systems, and other HVAC/R systems.
The Chief Engineer will work under the direction of the Senior Director of Facilities, and will work closely with the Facilities Managers and Trade Supervisors to accomplish daily goals, routine work/issues, planned maintenance, and projects.
Responsibilities:
Maintains flow and quality of work to assure timely completion of assigned workload as it relates to the duties assigned by Facilities Management Oversee and ensure that department contracts related to the plants and machinery for the hospital are effectively carried out and done in the specified time frame.
Plan, communicate and coordinate contractor/vendor work associated with the plants and machinery for the hospital.
Review and evaluate existing methods, systems, policies, procedures and practices for the trades of the department and also the hospital plants and machinery.
Prepare and maintain a variety of departmental records, reports and logs.
Maintain adequate inventory of materials, equipment and supplies.
Prepare quotes for orders that are needed for Facilities Management to approve.
Assign work to trades and provide an oversight with the trade specific supervisors Orients and trains staff members for on the job training Attends meetings with Facilities Management and other Departments such as Construction to add insight, expertise and knowledge on work involving the hospital plants and equipment.
Responsible for the general cleanliness and organization of the machinery equipment rooms and storage spaces.
Respond to failures in utilities or machinery equipment at all times and report onsite during non-regular working hours as needed.
Performs related and other departmental job duties as required.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
5-8 years of progressive experience in plant operations and engineering, including 3 years in a role related to hospital/healthcare facility, required.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field, preferred.
Licenses / Certifications:
HVAC/R License/Certifications, preferred.
Electrical License/Certifications, preferred.
Recommended Skills Construction Facility Management Hvac Machinery Maintenance Medical Emergency Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
