Engineer Trainee/Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation) - Region 8
Residency 8-9 is responsible for the Maintenance and Operation of State Highways in Southern Westchester County. The Permit Inspector works under the supervision of a PE 2, The duties of this position may include, but are not limited to the following:
o Oversee permit applications to ensure that the proposed design is according to sound engineering principles and Department Policy. o Review Highway Work Permit Plans and submissions for completeness and compliance with Department Design Standards and policies. o Process and enter permit applications into the Departments System. o Field visit to inspect permits for compliance during and at the project completion including WZTC. o Enforce state standards. o Close Permits (Acceptance) and retain records.

Minimum Qualification
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. NOTE:
Engineering Traineeship Program:
As an Engineer Trainee, you will serve a 24-month traineeship that leads to Assistant Engineer, Grade 20. To advance to Assistant Engineer, you must have obtained proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and successfully completed the requirements of the traineeship to the satisfaction of the appointing authority. At the discretion of the appointing authority, early advancement to Assistant Engineer is possible if you have obtained your FE and have successfully completed twelve months of the traineeship. It is your responsibility to notify the appointing authority's personnel office upon obtaining proof of passing the FE. You may receive an increaseEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
